About Me:
Welcome to my blog! My name is Josh, and i am 25 years old. I currently live in the great state of Ohio. I graduated from college back in 2011 with a degree in Civil Engineering and Construction management. I currently work as a project manager. My work consists of a variety of projects, from sports stadiums, to casinos, and everything in between. All in all, my career is enjoyable, albeit sometimes stressful. My job fits my personality pretty well, as i am fairly organized. This also carries over into my personal life, where ironically, i enjoy drawing up budgets, working on excel spreadsheets, and reading financial reports of the prospective companies i would like to invest in. It's ok, you can call me a nerd, i don't mind!
In my spare time, i enjoy working around my house, working on cars, going to the gym, and being outdoors. I also have a passion for craft beer, and have been trying to teach myself how to brew beer over the past year. Some of my brewing stories/mishaps may show up on this blog from time to time.
My financial journey started in 2011 when i graduated from college. I had a brand new, good paying job, and excess cash. I wanted to invest some of my new found money, but had no idea where to start. When you are 21 years old, things like forward P/E and Yield seem like foreign concepts, unless you studied finance in college. After doing a bit of research, I determined that i was going to buy a few shares on Verizion for no other reason other than it was a well known brand, and a new Iphone was being released. Thankfully my experience early on was indeed positive. I let Verizion sit for a few years, sort of forgetting about my investment. I didn't fully understand investing, and decided i wasn't going to dedicate any new capital until i had a better grasp on the concept, plus i wanted to save diligently for a down payment on my first home. Fast forward to January of 2014. I stumbled across a few personal finance blogs and was immediately inspired. I owe a debt of gratitude to the dividend blogging community. After reading some of the stories on these blogs, it inspired me to get my own financial situation in gear, and really start working toward being financially independent at a young age. I began investing chunks of money into quality names like JNJ, PG, MO, and CVX. Today, i hold a small, but respectable portfolio that continues to grow by the month. I hope to eventually post my monthly progress, as well as my portfolio as a whole so that a beginner may see my progress and get inspired like i did.
I plan to use this blog as a personal journal, detailing my thoughts and feelings on the market, life, investments, and everyones favorite topic......passive income! l . I am by no means a professional money manager or expert stock trader. I am just a guy, trying to make a better financial position for myself, and my future. I hope you enjoy your experience here, and share your thoughts and feelings on the content posted. Enjoy, and thanks for stopping by!
